Liberating Iraq is one of the most hotly debated topic these days. There are many points of view on US War on Iraq. People differ on what Liberating Iraq actualy means:

  • Some would consider Iraq liberated when Saddam is removed, and prosecuted.
  • Some believe that replacing Saddam by a group of tribal leaders would only be a symbolic change because that would merely replace Saddam by a bunch of ethnically divided (and possibly equally bad) warlords that do not stand the sights of each other.
  • Some believe that an occupied Iraq would be still better off than the state it is in under the current dictatorship of Saddam Hussein.
  • Some believe that Iraq would not be liberated until such time that its people embrace a western style democracy in Iraq.
  • On the other hand, some believe that a fundamentalist country can not be nudged into adopting a western style government overnight through a cowboy style cattle-prodding gun-blazing Shock and Awe war campaign.
  • Some believe that this entire issue of so called "liberation of Iraq" is rooted in hidden US agenda. They think this is as bizzare as a home-owner waking up one morning to find his house being forcefully rennovated by a group of "volunteers" from a country club across the town just because they do not like the looks of his house.
  • Many believe that unless people of Iraq have the freedoms that we enjoy in our Democratic way of life, it can not possibly be considered liberated.
  • Some caution that in light of the anti-American sentiments that are so deeply embedded in that part of the world, if free elections were conducted in many of those countries today and if a write-in candidate were to be allowed, some extremist of the likes of bin Laden may indeed get elected in some of those contries.
  • Some believe that when Saddam is removed, and Iraq is "managed" for some time by the occupying Western military, democracy may indeed flourish there eventually, thereby charting a new trail that people oppressed in other fundamentalist countries in that region may some day follow.
